Organic wine fair gets UK thumbs up

Organisers of last week's Millésime Bio organic wine fair at Narbonne in southern France reported increased interest from British buyers.

For the first time in the fair's 14-year history , organisers the Languedoc-Roussillon organic wine producers' association had targeted the UK market, with a mailing to 300 potential attendees.

Threshers' head buyer Jonathan Butt, looking for wines to include in the revamped, ethically-sourced Origin range, said he was impres sed with the variety . Almost all of France was represented, with exhibitors also from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Argentina.

Angela Lynas, of Glasgow-based merchant Wineconnect, described the show as "great". With close to 250 growers exhibiting - and more on the waiting list - the fair has grown beyond all recognition since the first gathering of fewer than 20 Languedoc-Roussillon domaines in 1993.
