Easthope sells 24,000 bottles in 24 hours through Naked Wines
New Zealand winemaker Rod Easthope has pre-sold 24,000 bottles of unmade wine worth more than £280,000 in 24 hours after signing up with Naked Wines.
The ex-Craggy Range winemaker has created an exclusive range of wines for Naked Wines and is joining the online retailer as a consultant winemaker, as reported on drinksretailingnews.co.uk on February 22.
The grapes for the first two wines – a Sauvignon Blanc (rrp £8.99) and a Pinot Gris (rrp £7.99) from Hawkes Bay – are still hanging on the vine, but the wines are due to reach the UK in October.
They sold quicker than a case a minute on Naked Wines’ Marketplace platform, which allows winemakers to pitch parcels of wines directly to consumers to help raise cash.
Naked Wines chief executive Rowan Gormley said: “It’s fantastic to see our Angels rallying round and showing their support for Rod, and demonstrating the Naked model in action – which is driven by their loyalty and investment.”
