The Balvenie launches new addition to core range
The Balvenie has added a 17 Year Old DoubleWood to its core range of single malt whiskies.
It has the same honeyed spiciness as the Balvenie’s most popular expression, DoubleWood 12 Year Old, but it has deeper vanilla notes and hints of green apple and creamy toffee.
The whisky is matured in American oak barrels, which give it soft sweet vanilla notes, before it is transferred to European oak sherry casks, where the second cask ageing adds rich spicy flavours.
It was created by Scotland’s oldest malt master David Stewart, in his 50th year in the business, and he said: “Wherever I travel in the world, DoubleWood 12 Year Old is the expression that people are most likely to have enjoyed.
“It is also one of the whiskies I am most proud of when I look back over my 50 years at the distillery, which is why it has been so exciting to create this new older version.”
It retails at £75 and is available from November 1.
The new core range now includes both Balvenie DoubleWood expressions, The Balvenie Caribbean Cask, Aged 14 Years, and The Balvenie Portwood, Aged 21 Years.
