Morrisons snaps up Italian wine brand

01 February, 2013

Italian producer Caviro has secured a deal with Morrisons that will see its Tavernello wine range listed in all the retailer’s stores nationwide.

Tavernello is the top selling wine brand in Italy.

This listing will see the introduction of three wines – a fruity Trebbiano Chardonnay Rubicone, a classic Sangiovese Rubicone and fresh Garganega Pinot Grigio – in all Morrisons stores, with an RRP of £3.99.

Tavernello wines have been enjoyed by Italian families for more than 30 years and currently hold the ninth spot in the world’s top wine brands (Impact Databank 2012) – with almost 100 million litres sold worldwide in 2012.

The firm said the Trebbiano Chardonnay Rubicone is “light and golden in colour with citrus aromas on the nose, dry and well balanced, this white wine gives hints of apple and pear on the palate. The Sangiovese Rubicone has an intense ruby colour and the delicate scent of violets on the nose. It is a dry and well-balanced red wine with soft tannins. The Garganega Pinot Grigio has attractive floral and citrus aromas. Flavours of white pear and zingy lemon give way to a crisp finish from this intense, yet fresh, wine.”
