Urquell bottles to turn brown
Pilsner Urquell is switching from green to brown glass bottles for the UK market. Supplier Miller Brands said the move was intended to “reinforce the brand’s quality and original Pilsner credentials”.
The new packaging will feature a retro style label with a nod to the brand’s Czech heritage. Brown glass provides better protection for beer from heat and light damage than green or clear glass.
Tim Clay, director of sales for Miller Brands, said: “Pilsner Urquell is a pleasant rarity in today’s world as it offers customers a contemporary, quality beer with a unique heritage and story.
“We have kept the world’s first pilsner true to its flavour, ingredients and source which, now more than ever, beer lovers truly appreciate.”
