California wine industry emphasises its commitment to the UK market
The Wine Institute of California has spoken out to reassure the UK trade that it is not abandoning the UK market after news that the London office run by John McLaren and Venla Freeman is to shut.
Linsey Gallagher, vice president for international marketing at the Wine Institute, told OLN: “I want to reiterate that our recent actions in the UK are most definitely not a change in market commitment but rather a change in marketing strategy in one of our top export markets for California wines, the UK.
“By no means are we abandoning the market or ceasing our activities there.”
September is California Wine Month and UK retailers are running in-store promotions to drive sales of wines from the Golden State after OLN ran its annual buying trip to Napa, Sonoma and other regions this summer.
We will keep retailers updated with news on the Wine Institute’s plans to continue its marketing activities in the UK.
