Chapel Down sparkles at The Boat Race
Oxford battled to victory over bitter rivals Cambridge in the Boat Race yesterday and the winners celebrated by spraying jeroboams of Chapel Down all over each other.
The Kentish winery, which also makes an award-winning range of beers and ciders, provides the official sparkling wine of the Boat Races.
Cambridge emerged victorious in the women’s race and there was plenty of Chapel Down to go round.
As well as being enjoyed by the thirsty victors, Chapel Down was served onboard Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Rowbarge, the Gloriana, for VIP guests that travelled down the Thames before the races began and in the hospitality suites at the start and finish lines.
Chief executive Frazer Thompson said: “Some days will live long in the memory. From the elite athletes who starred in a day they will never forget, to the thousands of spectators who lined the Thames to show their support and the millions who watched the coverage on television in the UK and abroad.
“We are thrilled that Chapel Down are the sparkling partner of such a great British event and able to make a memorable day even more enjoyable. The Boat Race truly is peculiarly British, very special and something of which we can all feel very proud. The perfect fit with Chapel Down.”
Chapel Down also created a pop-up bar at the start line on Putney Embankment, where it helped keep thousands of spectators refreshed.
