Michelin-starred Barrafina launches own wine range

12 September, 2017

Acclaimed London tapas bar group Barrafina is launching its own brand of take-home wine.

A Verdejo-Sauvignon Blanc from the Cuatro Rayas winery in Rueda in Spain will be launched exclusively in Sainsbury’s on October 29 and red and white Garnacha from Navarra and a Rioja will follow in 2018.

The first wine will go on sale in Sainsbury’s at £8.

Brothers Sam and Eddie Hart opened the first Barrafina in Soho in 2007, and have since opened two further restaurants in Covent Garden.

The Soho restaurant received a Michelin star in 2014.

“We’re very excited to be launching our first at-home Barrafina wines, which we’ve been working on for many months to get right,” said Sam Hart.

“We know that lots of our diners come from all over the country to eat with us, so it’s great to make a little bit of Barrafina available nationwide for those who can’t get to the restaurants very often.

“I love a fresh Verdejo and this Sauvignon blend adds layers of complexity to make for a vibrant, easy drinking yet elegant wine. It works brilliantly with Mediterranean salads, fish and rice dishes.”

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
