Highland Park gives a smokier edge to malt for Dragon Legend launch

Orkney distillery has released Dragon Legend, a new whisky made with a higher proportion of peated malt.

The extra peat influence gives the whisky a smokier flavour. It is being bottled at 43.1% abv and sold only in UK supermarkets in 2017 with an rrp of £40.

The launch follows the introduction of new packaging for Highland Park’s core range in April.

Brand director Jason Craig said: “Having recently repackaged our existing 12- and 18-year-old whiskies with striking Viking-inspired iconography, we were really keen to offer our consumers a new whisky to explore and enjoy.

“This new whisky is still very much recognisable as a member of the Highland Park family with its key characteristics, from the use of both European and American sherry-seasoned oak casks, of vanilla and warm spices complementing the richer aromatic peat smoke.”

Distribution is initially in 500 Tesco stores with other multiple listings to follow. Highland Park said it would be looking to introduce Dragon Legend into key European markets next year.
