Cocchi gets wider off-trade rollout

09 February, 2018

Aperitif and vermouth brand Cocchi has been given a wider off-trade rollout in the UK and has secured a listing with Waitrose.

The brand, which is produced by the Bava family in the Italian town of Asti in Piedmont, is set to appear in 250 Waitrose stores and via Waitrose.com. The supermarket retailer will list two variants: Cocchi Vermouth di Torino and Cocchi Rosa.

Cocchi, which is imported and distributed in the UK by Speciality Brands, has been well regarded as a bartender’s favourite for many years and has recently enjoyed success with independent retailers.

Speciality Brands’ retail business manager, Phil Nickson, said: “Taking the Cocchi brand into Waitrose is a big move for an artisan winery from Piedmont. The brand is synonymous with vermouth and aperitif in Italy and this move gives us an opportunity to follow that fame here in the UK. Bartenders have a great love for Cocchi products and we are confident that a Waitrose listing gives consumers the chance to develop the same brand relationship.”

The brand was founded by Giulio Cocchi in 1891, and the winery has been run by the Bava family, fourth generation Barolo wine growers, since the 1990s.
