Hush Heath Estate adds saffron beer to its premium drinks portfolio

Hush Heath Estate has collaborated with a saffron specialist to launch its first beer.

Jake Balfour-Lynn, co-founder of Saff Tali, is following in his father’s footsteps by creating the first commercialised saffron beer in the UK. The beer joins the Kent wine producer Hush Heath’s family of premium drinks.

Jake Balfour-Lynn, Saff Tali’s director and co-founder, said: “To many people saffron is a bit of a mystery, but when sourced with care, this spice is an incredible flavour enhancer. That’s why, in a world of highly hopped beers, we have bucked the trend and created this subtle, smooth style of lager that allows the saffron to flourish and bring out the best in the beer’s delicate balance of bitter and aromatic hops.”

The 4.8% abv Jake’s Saffron Beer – which is vegan and gluten-free – is a lighter style of lager, which is packaged in dark 33cl bottles, 33cl cans or kegs. The beer is priced at £24 for a case of 12 bottles or cans and £85 for a keg.

Hush Heath is handling the on and off-trade enquiries in the UK.

Saff Tali is a saffron specialist which sources high quality saffron from the Morrocan village of Taliouine, on the edge of the Sahara desert. The directors are Jake Balfour-Lynn and Sebastien Fiducia, a chef turned entrepreneur.
