Molson Coors snaps up Hop Stuff Brewery
Molson Coors has acquired London-based craft brewer, Hop Stuff Brewery and Taprooms.
Hop Stuff Brewery was founded by James Yeomans in 2013 and it makes a range of IPAs, pilsners, porters and stouts, including brands Renegade IPA, Four Hour Session IPA and Unfiltered Pils from its brewery in Thamesmead. It also has three Brewery Taprooms: Taproom SE8 in Deptford, SE18 in Woolwich Arsenal and TN23 in the commuter town of Ashford in Kent.
Despite developing a good reputation for the quality of its beers, Hop Stuff experienced financial difficulties this year and the business faced going into liquidation. Molson Coors has bought the brand and assets of the business as part of a pre-packaged administration process, transferring all staff to Molson Coors and securing the future of Hop Stuff Brewery, its brands and Taprooms.
Jim Shearer, marketing director at Molson Coors, said: “We recognised in the Hop Stuff team a real shared value and ethos on craft beer – that it must be accessible, inclusive and of exceptionally high and consistent quality. When we found out the company was under threat, after spending time with James and tasting these exceptional beers, we felt Hop Stuff’s beers and the ethos James had started were too good not to exist.
“The brand and asset purchase of Hop Stuff is one more step we are taking to premiumise our portfolio, while preserving the authenticity and provenance of much-loved brands. Our track record with Sharp’s, Franciscan Well, and most recently Aspall Cyder, is testament to the care we take with these craft brands.”
Founder Yeomans will remain with the business.
