Maverick Drinks releases first Teeling Whiskey distilled 100% in Dublin

Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey – the first new Dublin-distilled Irish whiskey to be released for nearly 50 years – is being brought to the UK by Maverick Drinks.

The whiskey – which will be available to order from the end of this month – is crafted using a traditional Dublin pot still recipe of 50% un-malted spring barley and 50% malted barley, which is triple distilled and matured in a combination of virgin oak, ex-bourbon and sherry barrels.

The arrival of Teeling Single Pot Still is a landmark occasion for the Irish whiskey category, because the move signals a “return to the golden era of Irish whiskey distillation in Dublin”, according to Maverick.

In 2015, Teeling Whiskey became the first Dublin distillery to open in the city for 125 years, reviving a long-standing traditional of whiskey distillation in the capital.

Stephen Teeling, co-owner and sales & marketing director at Teeling Whiskey, said: “When we launched Teeling Whiskey in 2012 our dream was to restore Dublin to its former whiskey distilling glory. Launching our first commercial release to be distilled 100% at the new Dublin distillery completes this revival, and we hope it will be just the start of a new whiskey distilling renaissance in Dublin.”

The new whiskey is said to have aromas of cinnamon on the nose, with grapefruit, cream soda and roasted almonds. An initial white pepper flavour gives way to ripe kumquats, peaches and cream and a hint of honey. The finish is dry, with a lingering spice and dark muscovado sugar sweetness.

Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey will be available to taste for the first time in the UK at the Whisky Show from 28 to 29 September, and then it will be available in select retailers on a limited basis, priced at £49.95.
