Broadland invests in new canning line to drive wine NPD in small formats

Broadland Wineries is installing a new canning line in direct response to the summer success of its Minivino brand.

A pink fizz Minivino in a can was added to the range earlier in the year, extending the brand out of its original recyclable cup format.

This activity was introduced to meet consumer demand and to fuel Broadland’s ambition for Minivino to be the number one brand in the small format sector of the market. It plans to launch a white fizz Minivino can this Autumn.

Liz Cobbold, marketing director, said: “The summer has been a huge success for our Minivino brand – it has seen a growth in sales of 201% over the last year, making it the fastest growing single serve brand in the market according to the latest Nielsen statistics.

“Canned wine overall is one of the growth areas in wine with sales up 139% over the same period. Canned wine enables customers to moderate their drinking and trial new brands as well as providing convenience.

"Broadland is ready to launch a number of wine and non-wine brands in canned format early 2020 and we are also offering retailers own label cans, including medium and short runs, to allow easy trial and innovation.”
