Survey aims to gather opinions on the future of tasting events

An industry-wide collaboration of specialist wine PR companies, generic bodies and wine logistics companies is working on an initiative to produce a comprehensive set of guidelines on organising safe Covid-19 aware trade and press tastings.

The guidelines are aimed at reassuring those involved that as an industry all aspects of keeping everyone safe in a tasting environment have been carefully considered.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Tastings are such an integral part of our trade and it is imperative that people feel confident when returning to them in the ‘new normal’. We would love for this to be a truly industry-wide collaboration.”

The following hygiene measures will now become standard practice at tasting events: Hand sanitiser will be widely available on arrival, regular cleaning of facilities, event staff will wear forms of PPE and have training in this area, and there will be social distancing signage. 

The group has created a survey to gauge reactions to the proposed solutions. The survey wants to gather information and opinions about general attendance and travel to events, registering and arrival, tasting and equipment, toilets & hygiene, social distancing measures, food, masterclasses & seminars and timings.
