Spar adds to its organic wine collection

Spar is launching two new organic wines under a new brand name, Orbis (Latin for ‘World’)

The new Orbis range is produced in one of Europe’s leading region for organic vineyards, Castilla La Mancha in Spain, where there are more than 50,000 hectares under cultivation.

Organic production includes natural substitutions for chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers but it also encompasses a change in production systems with varieties adapted to local conditions, the improvement of soil fertility and maintaining environmental stability.

Philippa Carr, Master of Wine at Spar UK, says: “The Orbis Organic Tempranillo Shiraz blend is a deep cherry-red in colour with aromas of strawberries and fruits of the forest, making it smooth and well-balanced.

“Enjoy on its own or with hearty food like meats, cheese or mushroom dishes. The white wine is a Verdejo Sauvignon Blanc blend and is pale lemon in colour with aromas of ripe peaches and tropical fruit flavours, making it a crisp and well-balanced white wine. Great match with fresher, lighter cuisine especially vegetables and fish, green salads and seafoods. Serve chilled.”

The Orbis Organic Tempranillo and Shiraz and the Orbis Organic Verdejo Sauvignon Blanc wines are exclusive to Spar and they will be in stores from June 29, 2020. The wines will have an initial launch price of £7 until August 9.

Spar is also adding a duo of wines from Spain, one red and one white. The bottles will be priced at less than £5 each (£4.89) and they will be in stores from June 29.
