Broadland Wineries has achieved Grade A standing

with the British Retail Consortium for wine production quality following a recent audit. The bottler's grade had slipped to B when it went into administration last year but it was audited in June 2007 and re graded to

Champagne Pommery has launched Maxi Pink POP - a full-sized version of the rosé cuvée which has only been available in 20cl bottles until now. It is packaged in a transparent pink gift box. The Champagne - a blend of 70 per cent Pinot Noir, 20 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Meunier - has an rrp of £34.99.

Chilean winery Viña Ventisquero says it will be the first winery in the country to offset the carbon emissions produced through its wine transportation. The company has teamed up with UK-based Climate Care , a specialist

in reducing greenhouse gas emissions on behalf of companies and individuals. A Climate Care sticker will appear on each bottle of wine. Export manager Américo Hernández said: "This is just the first step in reducing our carbon footprin t."

Bordeaux winemaker Marc Pagès has died at the age of 83. Tunisian-born Pagès took over the run down Château la Tour de By in 1965 and turned it around to produce wine worthy of a


classé. His grandson, Frédéric Le Clerc, who has worked with Pagès at the estate for the

past two years, will continue to run it.

Waverley TBS has added Australian wine brand Nepenthe to its UK portfolio. The company plans to increase distribution of the wine in independent wine merchants. Catherine Boot, category manager for Waverley TBS, said: "Nepenthe is one of the most significant producers in the Adelaide Hills with high quality, prestigious wines and we're looking forward to creating new opportunities for distribution across the country."

Waitrose is offering up to a third off its Australian wine throughout August. The supermarket is also offering up to 25 per cent off selected red, white and rosé wine and discounts on fortified wine, beer and spirits until Sept 11.
