Whisky auction to help Japan fund
Gordon & MacPhail has donated a £13,000 bottle of whisky for auction to raise money for the Japanese earthquake relief effort.
A special one-item sale of the recently-launched Generations Glenlivet 70-year-old will be sold by Bonhams in Edinburgh on the evening of March 29.
Only 100 decanters of the whisky have been released for sale in 2011 by the specialist whisky distributor and retailer.
The bottle in the auction will be decanter number one.
Michael Urquhart, joint managing director, had been due to fly to Japan for the whisky’s launch there when the earthquake struck.
Urquhart said: “Gordon & MacPhail has had trading relationships with Japan for over 30 years and members of our family-owned business felt it was important to show our support and raise funds to aid the relief.”
Bonhams is donating its services for free to the auction, which will raise money for the British Red Cross Japan Appeal.
