Halewood expands its Liverpool Collection of spirits

Halewood Wines & Spirits has expanded its Liverpool Collection by adding a rum to sit alongside the vodka and three gin variants.

The small batch, single cask Liverpool Rum, which is inspired by the 17th century shipyards of Liverpool, has been launched into the UK.

Stewart Hainsworth, Halewood’s chief executive, told OLN: “It comes from Trinidad but it has aged for a year in the docks at Liverpool. I have in my mind to add a limited edition whisky to this collection as well, but the core drinks will be the gins and the vodka.

“We sell a lot of Liverpool Gin in Merseyside but we want to move it into other parts of the country now. There are not many brands that have docks, the Beatles and two football teams, so as a city it punches above its weight. It’s a brand we can develop.”

The 43% abv rum is distilled in Trinidad from sugar cane molasses. The premium, dark rum is aged for 16 years, double matured and then finished in ex-American Bourbon barrels, which gives the rum a deep amber colour and enhances the oak and caramel in its taste profile.

The rum (rrp £48) is recommended for sipping; it can be served neat or over ice and is the ideal base for the Liverpool Storm, which is a twist on the well-known drink Dark & Stormy, a blend of Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer and lime.
