The Distillers' Charity donates £50,000 to The Drinks Trust
The Distiller’s Charity has pledged £50,000 to The Drinks Trust to support people in the drinks industry who are facing severe hardship as a result of Covid-19.
The Drinks trust has experienced a huge increase in demand for its services with many individuals from the industry now in desperate need. The “Your Round, Our Industry” appeal is supporting industry colleagues whether they are ongoing beneficiaries – more than 350 vulnerable people are being assisted as a result of critical illness, severe mental health concerns and extreme hardship – or those recently impacted by the epidemic, in a number of ways.
This includes wellbeing services, whereby The Drinks Trust helpline is offering access to wellbeing therapies that have been extended to respond to anxiety and depression concerns, as well as sleep and insomnia issues; Covid-19 Emergency Financial Support, which is an initiative targeted at those unable to benefit from the salary grant scheme set out by the Chancellor or those on zero hours contracts.
Kenny MacKay, master of The Worshipful Company of Distillers, said: “These are unprecedented times with thousands of industry colleagues out of work, creating strain and pressure on themselves and their loved ones. The Drinks Trust is supporting our community in these challenging times and we are proud as a Livery charity to back this appeal.”
Ross Carter, chief executive of The Drinks Trust, said: “We are grateful to have the support of The Distillers’ Charity in this time of crisis. It is heartening to know that the drinks industry is acting with solidarity to support colleagues who are less fortunate and facing hardship.”
