Spirits shop launches search for the year’s top whisky
The Whisky Exchange is repeating its search for a Whisky of the Year chosen by its customers.
It’s the second time that the award-winning retailer has set out on the quest which it uses to promote the winning product and the whisky category throughout the coming year.
The winning whisky is given a dedicated landing page on the retailer’s website and there are special offers and in-store tastings.
Votes for the first stage open on Monday, August 10, on the Whisky Exchange website. Customers can nominate up to four whiskies each, with the top three overall making it on to the final shortlist.
To qualify whiskies must be 48% abv or less, have a retail price of £65 or lower and be permanently available, ruling out limited editions.
The Whisky Exchange co-founder Sukhinder Singh and head buyer Dawn Davies MW will choose a further three to complete the list.
A Perfect Measure tasting kit of samples of all six finalists will then be available to buy, with the whiskies labelled A-F so they can be tasted blind.
A tasting session will also be held during the retailer’s Virtual Whisky Show from October 2-4.
A second online vote will be held to choose the eventual winner.
Nominations for the first phase open at 10am on Monday for two weeks.
The blind tasting judging packs will be available online and in-store from September 28 and the Whisky of the Year will be revealed on December 1.
The Whisky Exchange is the current holder of the Independent Spirits Retailer of the Year and Online Retailer of the Year in our own Drinks Retailing Awards. Nominations for the search to find the winners of those awards in 2021 close tomorrow.
