Good knight

Ian Good, chairman of The Edrington Group, was knighted by the Queen at an investiture at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh on July 1. Sir Ian, a former chairman of the Scotch Whisky Association, was awarded a knighthood in the New Year's Honour's list for services to industry in Scotland, and celebrated with wife Irene and daughters Katriona and Fiona.

Bruce honoured on home turf

Bruce Jack, the South African founder of Flagstone wines, which was recently acquired by Constellation Europe, has been named wine personality of the year at South Africa's inaugural Financial Mail Wine Business Awards held in Johannesburg. Judges said the award recognised Jack's "dynamic and vocal impact on changing the traditional face of the wine industry through the Constellation deal".

Fells to distribute Révélation

Fells has been appointed UK distributor for Révélation wines, produced in the Pays d'Oc by Badet Clement. Led by Catherine and Laurent Delaunay, Badet Clement has been producing wines since 1991, continuing a family tradition that originated in Burgundy over four generations ago. The range includes Chardonnay, Viognier/Chardonnay, Cabernet/Merlot, and Grenache/Syrah/Mourvèdre.

Hewitt to develop HBJ

HBJ Wines & Spirits has appointed Graham Hewitt in a role which involves developing the company's business in the Midlands, the north of England and north Wales. Hewitt's career has involved hotel management.

Chilling out

Research carried out for the Can Makers,

which represents UK manufacturers of beer and soft drinks cans, has found that 62% of consumers surveyed prefer chilled cans over glass and PET bottles. The study also found that cans chill quicker than equivalent glass and PET packaging.

Big cost savings in e-auction

The WSTA has helped leading Chilean wine producer Concha y Toro secure a £10,000 saving on the cost of stationery supplies. WSTA Procurement, part of the member services arm of the WSTA, organised the e-auction, recruiting 32 companies to offer a range of stationery and display materials. Bidding by contestants led to contracts for supplies being awarded to two companies, with Concha y Toro securing significant savings from the initial prices put forward.
